Lon Kruger's son takes parting shot at BYU

Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson released a statement yesterday regarding BYU leaving for the WCC, and it consisted of 99 words.

"BYU" wasn't one of them.

As fond farewells go, this won't be one of football jerseys
them. And as BYU play-by-play man Greg Wrubell noted, "The knives will be out for BYU this fall and winter in the MWC."

Fittingly, it's rival UNLV to be one of the first to land blows, and this one didn't even take 140 characters.

The son of coach Lon Kruger, former Rebels guard Kevin Kruger, fired off this trash-talking tweet in reaction to the BYU news.

Kruger refers to the fact that BYU won its only Mountain West Conference tournament in 2001 even though it has made six NCAA tournament appearances since then.

The Cougars found it difficult winning a tournament so often held in Las Vegas and would lose three times in the championship game to UNLV. Kruger in fact was the tournament's MVP in 2007 in a year UNLV beat BYU in the final.

UNLV also sent BYU home early with a semifinal win in this year's tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The WAC tournament moves to Las Vegas this season as well, so it could make for some interesting run-ins when the three leagues converge on the city in March.
